SDI Video converters

SDI stands for Serial Digital Interface and is part of the digital video family first standardized by SMTPE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers). The SDI video signal allows transmission of uncompressed and unencrypted digital video signals in studio, live staging, post production and other broadcast grade applications.

SDI uses coaxial with BNC connectors and are developed in different standards to support increasing video resolutions. Other SDI standards are SD-SDI, ED-SDI, HD-SDI, Dual Link HD-SDI and 3G-SDI. The main purpose of SDI converters is to convert the SDI signal to a different standard including DVI, HDMI, component, S-Video, composite or to other SDI standards or vice versa. SDI converters are typically needed when an application is working with different components. An example scenario is a 3G-SDI camera working with an HDTV that only has HDMI inputs. In this case, a 3G-SDI to HDMI converter is needed to see the content from the camera on the HDTV display.
