Component Cables are analog based connector types typically used around the home and some commercial applications. Component cables can easily be mistaken for composite cables or vice versa because of the similar color scheme on the ends of each connector. Although they are both analog type connectors, component AV cables offer better video quality by separating 3 connectors for video (red, blue, green) with a left and right audio connector totaling 5. Composite only has 3 connectors with 2 being used for left and right audio. In addition, many HDTV’s support component video signals up to 1080p; just look for the 5 inputs located in the front panel, the side or the back of the TV.
