RS232 and IR Extenders
RS-232 is a serial communication transmission standard for computers and IR is infra-red which is a signal typically used to control TV's, DVD players and cable boxes with a remote control. While IR only works through a line of sight, RS-232 is connected via serial port. An RS-232 extender can extend any RS-232 peripheral to a remote location long distances. On the other hand, and IR extender typically attaches to a component via an extender module in an area where there is line of sight while allowing the component to be concealed.
