The Best of the Best at CES 2018

The Consumer Electronics Show—the tech show of all tech shows—has come to a close in Las Vegas, NV. By the looks of it, CES 2018 was quite the adventure. The first rain to hit the city in 116 days decided to crash Day 1, creating convention center leaks and shutting down Google’s outdoor booth. The uninvited guest wasn’t done on Day 2, causing a massive blackout; in unrelated news, Milli Vanilli said to blame it on the rain. Fortunately, the only other surprises were unveiled on the show floor with countless companies exhibiting their plans for the new year. We here at BZB Express reviewed all the unique and promising technology to explode onto the scene. Enjoy our list of bests from CES 2018.

Best Projector: Optoma UHD51A

There are many quality 4K projectors on the market today, but Optoma is launching the first projector with voice assistant Alexa built in. The UHD51A is a 4K projector boasting a 500,000:1 contrast ratio, 2,400-lumen brightness, HDR support, and even an Android media player inside. But what really makes this unit unique is its control over your smart home. When you’re ready for family movie night, just tell Alexa to turn the lights down and fire up the microwave to get those kernels popping!

Best TV: Sony 85-inch 8K HDR LED TV

Sony unveiled an 85-inch 8K prototype TV that wowed the crowd. Utilizing its X1 Ultimate chip, this TV delivers the HDR10 spec at 100 percent and is capable of a stunning 10,000 nits of brightness. Nits are the measure of brightness and to put it all into perspective, today’s consumer TVs are maxing out at 2,000 nits. Certainly can’t get nitpicky about that!

Best Wearable: L’Oreal UV Sense

When you think “wearable,” you think of some fitness tracker wrapping around your wrist. Well, L’Oreal may have just changed the game with their thumbnail-sized UV sensor. The UV Sense communicates to your smartphone the amount of sunlight you’re receiving throughout the day. No battery is needed as it discretely attaches to your fingernail, recording up to three weeks of data. It will be interesting to see if other wearables follow suit with its miniature concept.

Best Smart City Tech: Wi-Fiber Streetlights

With the Internet of Things (IoT) dominating last year’s show, it continues at CES 2018 with its venture into making smarter, more efficient cities. Wi-Fiber introduces a modular street lamp with many beneficial possibilities. Energy-saving LED bulbs having the ability to strobe and change colors, gives law enforcement a way to communicate in areas of a situation taking place.

Surveillance capabilities are supported with a recording 4K camera and two-way mic and speaker. Gunshot detectors and air quality monitors incorporate into the system. Also, it provides wifi to the city potentially eliminating cellular subscriptions and allowing better machine-to-machine communications.

With a trove of fascinating technology sprouting out of CES 2018, it’ll be a wonder to wonder what the new year brings. I cannot wait!
