As expected, 4K/UHD products continue to make their way to our homes, our businesses and our lives. The transition from 1080p to 4K/UHD will take years while consumers are still learning what 4K/UHD is all about. On the other hand, developers, designers, and other businesses in the AV industry have to be 2 to 3 steps ahead of everyone else when it comes to new technology. With that said, we’d like to preview a new device that’ll give us a glimpse of what the future beholds.

Introducing the AT-UHD-PRO3-88M from Atlona which is a dual distance HDMI to HDBaseT matrix switcher for 4K/UHD. The AT-UHD-PRO3-88M is a powerful new unit from a manufacturer that started designing HDBaseT as a standard for many of their products. This very capable matrix switcher enables PoE (power over ethernet) for receivers and an option for analog audio breakout. The AT-UHD-PRO3-88M HDMI to HDBaseT matrix switcher for 4K/UHD is able to provide flexible HDBaseT routing of up to 100 meters (328ft) and 70 meters (230ft) which is still a long distance. An added feature seen in many advanced matrix switchers including the AT-UHD-PRO3-88M are two HDMI outputs for mirrored routing. This awesome feature allows the user to route HDMI based audio to an AVR or simply be used as an additional output.

So many features and benefits, it’s hard to imagine that the AT-UHD-PRO3-88M has more to offer. Well, cut my tongue for speaking too soon because this matrix switcher does have more to offer. Independent volume control allows easier integration with zone control systems. Many amplifiers don’t provide mute, volume or equalizer options to tailor the sound for each zone, but the AT-UHD-PRO3-88M allows this for each de-embedded audio output.
